The Gateway Center is located at the east entrance of the Valhalla campus, creating the first impression for visitors, students and staff. Vidaris has collaborated with Polshek Partnership Architects (now Ennead) to incorporate energy efficient and environmentally-sound features in the building. Vidaris also commissioned the MEP systems.
The building site was developed to reduce site disturbance and maximize vegetated space with native/adaptive plant species and the new building will better manage storm water through bio-retention basins that capture and treat runoff. The designed project does not use potable water for landscape irrigation and water conserving fixtures have been installed for 30 percent savings over traditional fixtures. The project incorporates energy efficiency measures to exceed the requirements of the LEED baseline by over 30 percent, due to energy efficiency measures such as spectrally-selective low-e glass, improved wall and roof construction and reduced Lighting Power Density, in addition to multi-level switching and occupancy sensors.
The project has been cofunded by NYSERDA.
