Bloomberg Tower (731 Lexington Avenue)
|Location:||New York, NY|
|Architect:||Cesar Pelli & Associates|
|Client:||Vornado Realty Trust|
The 54-story Bloomberg Tower is located in a high density retail center of midtown New York. The building program consists of commercial offices and luxury condominiums, resting on a retail podium with a mid-block public atrium. At the time of completion in 2005, it was among the first to use high performance curtainwall in a high end residential application.
As building envelope consultants, Vidaris worked closely with the design team to establish suitable performance criteria, review bidders proposals and once awarded, review trade contractor’s shop drawings and submittals. Vidaris performed the controlled inspection that included shop monitoring and site inspection of the glazed stainless steel unitized curtainwall system. The curtainwall begins just above the lower retail floors and rises 815 feet with multiple setbacks. Many areas of the curtainwall feature a point-fixed glass canopy.
As roofing and waterproofing consultants for the main plaza entrance and courtyard atrium, Vidaris assisted in the development of project drawings, details and specification performance criteria. Vidaris also provided on-site construction monitoring for compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
