The Equitable Building (120 Broadway)
|Location:||New York, NY|
The largest office building in the world at the time of its completion in 1915, the Equitable Building at 120 Broadway occupies its entire block with an H-shaped Beaux Arts structure that contains one of the era’s most splendid concourse lobbies. An engineering landmark in its own right, the Equitable Building’s imposing bulk was the catalyst for the famous 1916 Zoning Resolution, which made setbacks mandatory for larger skyscrapers and which in turn gave later New York landmarks such as the Empire State Building their distinctive shape. Vidaris managed a restoration of the entire façade and replaced the gigantic roof; one of lower Manhattan’s largest.
