The Mortimer B. Zuckerman Research Building offers MSK’s cancer researchers state-of-the-art laboratory spaces while responding to stringent urban design, zoning, and phasing constraints. Located on a dense urban site, the 420-foot-tall research tower also represents a new paradigm for urban laboratory buildings. Vidaris performed the shop drawing review and shop inspection, witnessed the curtain wall performance mock-up, and performed the site inspection. Vidaris reviewed and commented on the infiltration detailing, thermal bridge detailing and building tightness for new construction. Vidaris provided LEED and energy efficiency consulting to Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and to Cosentini Associates to achieve a sustainable building. All categories of the LEED rating systems were addressed: sustainable sites; water efficiency; energy and atmosphere; materials and resources; indoor environmental quality; innovative design. There are specially fabricated wall panels designed to allow fresh air to be pulled into the air conditioning system and “stale” air to be exhausted throughout the 23-story building.
