This innovative exposed concrete-framed residential tower by Rafael Vinoly Architects, rising 1,397 feet tall, will have a lasting impact on the skyline of midtown Manhattan. Currently the tallest building in New York City to roofline, it will have a mixed use occupancy of retail and residential. The residences will have some of the largest glazed windows ever used (10 feet by 10 feet). The project is located on Park Avenue between 56th and 57th Street on the site of the former Drake Hotel. The project is intended to have 128 Units and 12-foot high ceilings. The base of the building will have a three-story glass atrium retail component. As the exterior wall consultant, Vidaris is assisting the Developer and the Architect in delineating performance criteria for the large-sized windows, developing the details and technical criteria for weatherproofing them, and then monitoring the fabrication and on-site erection. The sustainable design features include maximizing daylight, providing an alternative transportation infrastructure, vegetative open space, storm water run off mitigation, sustainable landscaping design, low emitting materials and indoor air quality. Vidaris has assisted the Design Team with building energy modeling, thermal analysis, sustainable design assist, specifications as well as LEED monitoring during construction.
